One year, and nothing changes

I was marveling this week that James and I moved here exactly a year ago, and the weather is exactly the same. A cold front has just parked itself right over New England, dumping dismal dampness and putting me in a sullen mood. When we moved here, I don’t think I saw sunshine in the first two weeks. One thing that is different: my outlook. Sure, the apartment wasn’t all it was cracked up to be after we carried in all that crap and got settled in, but we still felt like there was something to look forward to. James was starting a new job, I was going to get a new job at some hotshot consumer magazine in no time, and we had a whole new city to explore!

It’s funny how things never turn out how you planned them. But they always work out in the end. Although New York turned out to be the wrong city for us, the right one is sitting just around the corner. So is that hotshot consumer job. We just have to be patient.

Last weekend we broke up the yuck weather monotony with a trip to Springfield, IL, to see the in-laws and nephews. It was nice to be back in the midwest. It smells a lot better. And I could actually see the sunset. We stopped in to see the new Lincoln Museum, which turned out to be one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. And we saw an awful lot of the babies (Brady: 4, Devin: 1). Very cute, and very exhausting. Don’t think we’re quite ready for our own just yet.
