A saturated brain

Today is the last day of my conference — there was only one session I wanted to attend today before I fly out. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned here! When my company upgraded to the latest software this summer, we art directors were left to figure out the new features on our own. Like me, I’m sure most of them didn’t have the time to take any online tutorials or courses. Now I’m armed with tons of hand-outs, demonstrations, and useful tips and shortcuts. This stuff is going to help me soooo much. Plus, we’re having an art director’s meeting next week, so I plan on sharing all this valuable info. (For my design friends who read this, I’ve got how-to’s on masking in InDesign, using Refine Edge in photoshop for COBs, using layer comps to create several versions in one file, and creating fully interactive PDFs, with video and rollovers, all from Indesign. So awesome!)

Last night I attended the Create Awards banquet. It was sort of an anti-event — just a bunch of people milling around and drinking — but it was cool to see some of the other winners on display. They awarded 8 other spreads in my category, and they were quite inspiring to look at. I took away a booklet of all the winners, and flipping through, I really do feel honored to be included in this group.
