No water…again.

I think James and I are going to have to stock up on bottled water. There was a veritable river running down our street all weekend — I guess a big water main burst up the street. The city came to work on it yesterday and didn’t bother to tell us they’d be shutting off the water. I sent James down there, and thankfully they were wrapping it up in the next hour. It doesn’t seem like it’s getting all that cold here — highs in the 20s and lows in the single digits. I know that’s cold, but back in KC, we’d get below 0 easy, and that’s for the high. This is an older neighborhood, so that might explain it. Though, our house is newer than the house I grew up in, and I don’t remember a high incident of broken pipes growing up. The big one I remember was while I was in high school. My parents didn’t notice the leak for a long time because it was filling up their crawl space — I think the bill was what tipped them off. The city had to turn off the water for about a week, and it was right during Christmas break. Then they tore up the front yard to replace the pipes, which totally peeved mom. Quite an eventful holiday that was.

…how is James liking the new job? I’ve been wondering because this move was so climatic!

It’s like any other job — it has its goods and bads. He’s really glad to be back in DC, but just as predicted, the job is not the answer to all of his worktime woes. It’s very demanding, and he’s been complaining about how much work they’ve delegated to him. He doesn’t have enough time in the day to finish everything because he’s constantly in meetings. We’re hoping because this is a new position that it will get better with time. And if it doesn’t, there are plenty of jobs in DC he can apply for if he wants to do something else. Which was the ultimate goal — we’ve signed a 2-year lease, so we have no plans to move anywhere else anytime soon. Thank god.
