Nice Day for an Illegal Picnic

Thanks to my diligence with various local Mommy groups, I’m finally making some new friends! Real ones, not just on Facebook! I met Emma a few weeks ago at a meetup at Meadowbrook Park (in which both our babies slept the whole time!), and, bless her, she’s been inviting me out on Fridays to meet with some of her friends. Last week we took a stroll down Sligo Creek, in which Liam decided to “reject” the stroller halfway through, and I had to carry him most of the way. Nice, son! Today we met up at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton for a lovely picnic lunch, and I met Emma’s sis-in-law (who shares both her first and last name, funny enough), her friend Dorie and one-year-old son (too cute for words!), and a very pregnant friend Cera. Actually, we had two very pregnants, with sis-in-law Emma a few days past her due date. Both were in superb spirits, despite our picnic in the grass requiring that they sit on the ground. We had a great spread — hummus, bread, cheese, yummy waldorf salad, grapes, and, mmmm….fried chicken. Much laughing, sharing of stories and advice, and playing with babies. And just as we were finishing up, a park employee came by on a golf cart and informed us, albeit politely, that we weren’t allowed to picnic here. D’oh! Such a lovely day, and lovely venue, I’m glad we got a chance to try it out. Even though it was…hush…illegal.
