Mad World

In these crazed days of email, IM, Twitter, Facebook, and texting, it’s no surprise that while I feel like I’m getting so much accomplished while multi-tasking, I’m really just doing a whole lot of things poorly. That’s according to the author interviewed in this enlightening NPR podcast of Fresh Air from last week. He also had some interesting things to say about children growing up with all of this technological clutter, and I’ll look forward to hearing more details about the study they’re conducting later in the year. I’m new to the texting game, and of course I’m wondering how I ever lived without it. But I’m trying to make a conscious effort of putting down the phone and ignoring those “pings” when Liam needs my attention. I hate when others don’t give me their full attention when I’m talking to them, instead tapping away at their phones and gadgets. I’m sure Liam hates it when I do that to him, too.

  1. Good for you!! I get so upset when I see parents using their cell phones in the car with the little ones in the back seat. Not only is it dangerous but they are missing the best conversations & bond times. Hope to see you soon.
