My poor sick boy

Aside from his bout with the Croup, Liam has hardly ever gotten sick. So I guess I’m fortunate to have gone 21 months until his first stomach virus. What a retched morning! I think this even beats the great poop explosion of ‘09. At one point, after our third change of clothes, I was standing with him in the tub sort of laughing and crying while he spewed all over me. And the walls. And the tub. What to do next but to take a bath? Good thing I hadn’t cleaned the house yet this week. And looks like I won’t be doing that today, either. After our bath I got out all of the beach towels, laid them on the carpet, put on Dinosaur Train, and let him sip on water and eat a few crackers. Then throw them all up. Those Ikea bibs helped a little, thought not enough. Here’s something no one ever told me about taking care of a sick kid – you don’t get to eat. I tried to sneak some yogurt when things died down, but then he was crying and begging for it, and I knew his stomach couldn’t take it. I finally got him down for a nap around 1:30, but only after I’d retrieved his blankie and stuffed dogs from the wash. Let’s hope they remain unsullied. I guess we’ll be getting out the steam cleaner after bedtime tonight. What a mess!
