I wish we had carpet

Two weeks from now Liam will be two, and it shows – in the form of bruises on his forehead! His standard tantrum-throwing stance includes rolling over on his side and banging his head against the floor. Or the wall. Or if he’s in my arms, my head. I’ve tried to ignore him, but he just bangs more furiously and cries louder. Now he’s got a ring of bruises along his hairline. Thank god he’s wearing winter hats when we’re out, or someone might call child services! Liam has a cold right now, so he’s throwing more tantrums than ever before. This morning he started in an his fifth fit of the day, but we were downstairs, so he banged his head harmlessly into the carpeting. What I wouldn’t give for wall-to-wall carpeting upstairs, where we spend most of our time!

  1. Follow him around with a throw rug? I’m so not looking forward to tantrums. At all. My instinct would be to ignore them, but what I’ve been reading lately is that you’re supposed to go to them. Really?! I guess time will tell how we settle tantrums. I don’t have a philosophy yet on parenting. I guess I’ll play it by ear. I still have time, right?
