We got one! Almost!

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

This Malvina Reynolds song made famous by the Showtime hit Weeds ran through my head in an endless loop today. We didn’t actually see many houses. We mostly emailed and called people (and pestered people) until we got one tour at 4 PM. It was in a section of East Orlando called Avalon Park, which we’d actually researched a bit before we came. The whole development is brand new, and it’s built around a shopping district, community center (with pool!), bike and hiking trails, all that you can walk to. (Supposedly. Seemed pretty spread out to me.) The subdivision we saw had an actual uniformed officer at the gate who had to take down our info before we entered. But this was far from a bad neighborhood….more like “exclusive.” La-dee-da!

Despite my misgivings about how cookie cutter the houses were, the house was actually quite nice. And quite big. And suprisingly affordable. Even better, we found another one just down the block that’s $150 cheaper and includes lawn care. We’re looking at that one on Saturday. So with any luck, between these two and our back up choice in Oviedo, we’ll have a deposit down on a house before we leave Sunday.

So, yeah, we’re feeling so much less stressed! And, because we can’t see that last house until Saturday, we’ve got Friday free to spend at SeaWorld. Shamu here we come!
