Feeling Very Third Trimester

This seemed to happen during my last pregnancy…at 23 weeks I was feeling perfectly fine, and in the weeks that followed, everything started to go downhill. It feels like this little girl has gained a full pound in the last two weeks. I had to retire my winter coat and switch to my old maternity pea coat. Which is super cute, so I don’t mind. We started moving furniture on Saturday to clear out the nursery, and I had to put on the full gambit of maternity support belts. Don’t worry, I didn’t do any heavy lifting. And the loft upstairs is quite cozy now with the guest bed in it. However, all the exertions left me pooped. I’ve been getting pains in the sides of my belly, round ligament pain I suspect. And my belly keeps hardening up randomly, perhaps a little Braxton-Hicks contractions. Already. Sheesh.

But where I really felt the difference was in Pilates class today. It’s strange to attend an exercise class for months and feel like you’re getting in worse shape as you go along. I’ve been able to keep up pretty well so far, modifying poses on my belly and taking breaks on my side if we stay on our backs for too long. But today was really hard, harder than it’s ever been. My instructor, who has been incredibly supportive, suggested I may try switching to gentle yoga soon. I think I may give it another few more classes – Liam got me up at 5:15 this morning, so I was a little tired to begin with. I’m at 25 weeks now, and at 28 I’ll officially have entered my third trimester. My goal was to make it to 30 weeks or more, so I’m falling a little short. But I’ve got to do what’s right for my body, and I think yoga will be a better fit moving forward. And I can still keep up with my exercise bike at home, as long as I don’t overdo it.
