Saturday we took Liam to his first theater show (unless you count all of those Sea World animal shows we used to take him to in Florida), and he had an absolute ball! He’s a huge Wild Kratts fan, so this was the perfect show for him to see. As we took our seats, a little boy in front of us turned around and informed us he’s seen every episode, and he watches Wild Kratts every day. Liam boasted right back to him that he did the same, and then they took turns trying to one-up each other with Wild Kratts animal knowledge. It was hilarious. The boy was a bit older than him, maybe 8 or 9, but that didn’t stop Liam spouting out all the facts he’d learned from the show.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect – the description on the website was kind of vague – but I was delighted to see the Kratt brothers in person on stage for just about the entire show. No live animals, but they did dress up in elaborate creature power suits, and there was a lot of crowd participation. I looked over and sure enough, Liam was shouting out the answer right along with all the other kids. It was just another sign of all the progress he’s made socially this year. He wasn’t at all bothered by the noise or the amount of people in the theater (I think the show was nearly sold out). He even clapped! (Usually he balks and complains about the noise, lol)

Near the end of the show they had a few technical difficulties with the video screen, and Martin Kratt had to do a little creative maneuvering to keep the flow going. I chuckled to myself, imagining him backstage channeling Robin Williams from Death to Smoochy at the AV crew. Ah, the seedy underbelly of children’s entertainment. Even funnier when Martin came out wearing a giant Rhino creature costume. Smoochy!! James and I have a strange affection for this underrated movie, so we had ourselves quite a laugh on the car ride home. Liam kept asking what was so funny. He also wanted to know if those were the “real life Wild Kratt guys from the show,” and when I told him it was, I think he got a little star struck. Whoa. The actual brothers Kratt in Wichita, Kansas? Needless to say, he wants to go again next year.
