Ok, this is about the cutest thing Liam has ever done. We live near a Greek Orthodox church, and every weekend the bells toll at different hours of the day. When I first heard them, I exclaimed, “Time for Mass!” Liam asked what that meant, and I explained it was time for people to go to church and listen to the sermon.
The next weekend Liam heard the bells ringing and he exclaimed, “Time for math! Mom, what’s eight plus eight!” I answered him, a little puzzled with the quiz, until I realized he confused Mass with Math. Ha ha ha!
I pointed out his mistake, but now it’s become a little joke. Every time the bells ring we do math. We’d rather do that than go to church anyway, lol.
Last night I spied Liam’s belly hanging out of his jammy shirt, and when I checked the label I saw they were a 3T. Well, no wonder! Today I went through all of his clothes, collecting all of the 2 and 3T pants and jammies and 4T shirts for our upcoming garage sale. (No more hand-me-downs to Milo. They’re the same size now.) This boy has grown so much this year, 2 inches since January. And he’s growing so independent now, too, making his own breakfast and practically putting himself to bed. He’s too big and heavy for me to pick up off the ground. But there are still some little boy hold outs – he still won’t try showers, he still drinks milk out of a cup with a lid, and I can still catch him mispronouncing words, which is no less adorable at age 6.
For instance, we played trains the other day, and one of the stations was in “You Nork City.” He still calls his toy piano his “plee-ano.” And he mispronounces cinnamon the same way I did as a kid, “cimmonim.”
They grow up so fast…but it’s nice to see that cute little boy shine through.
Liam speaks so clearly now, sometimes it makes me sad when I notice he’s correctly pronouncing a word he used to say so adorably wrong. But there are some holdovers. And even a few new turns of phrase. Here are some of my favorites:
Washing machine = Wash-em-er-all Machine
Spooky = Smooky (especially cute when he whispers, “Mommy, it’s smooky in here.”)
Dessert = Bezzert
Delicious = Ba-licious
Vacuum = Bacuum
Gloves = Glubs
Elevator = Ele-bay-tor
Darth Vader = Darth Bay-der (sensing a theme?)
Computer = Um-pewter
Blueberries = Blue-blerries
and, I’m thankful to report…
Florida = Floordoorah
Lost is South Nakoda and Keeweebs (kiwis). And probably many others that over time I’ve completely forgotten. That’s why I write this stuff down. Because I know in two or three years I’ll have completely forgotten this.
Liam talks a lot now. In fact, there’s nothing he can’t say…although he does mispronounce things from time to time. And in the cutest way.
At Halloween I used the word “spooky” and now whenever it’s dark, Liam will say,”Mommy, it’s dark. It’s smooky!”
Liam hates commercials. A lot. So when we get to a commercial, Liam whines,”Mommy needs to fast this forward!”
At breakfast I eat a kiwi with cinnamon toast and tea. Liam always comments,”Mommy’s drinkin’ hot tea and eatin’ keeweebs!”
